Welcome to this month’s book review! Since the movie recently came out I took it upon myself to read the book based off the movie: Beauty and the Beast. Would the book be as amazing as the movie was? I have to admit I was slightly apprehensive since the book was based off the movie and not the other way around. And since the book was based off the movie the plot followed suit. With that being said I personally enjoyed the book. If you have read my review of the movie then you will know just how much I loved it. The same can be said of the book. I am a firm believer of a book always being better than its movie, and while this book was based off its movie it still managed to be better. The reason it managed to be even more enjoyable (If that’s even possible) is because you get a better look into the character’s mind. In a movie you are unable to hear what they are thinking, you only hear what they say. But in a book, you are able to read every thought that passes through their head. This gives the characters more depth and causes them to be more relatable to the reader. Obviously, my favorite character to get in the mind of was Belle. Personally, I find her change of heart towards the Beast to be somewhat sudden, spur of the moment if you will. But when you are able to get inside her head you see the gradual changes in her thinking before she herself even begins to realize. I loved how from the moment they first met she realized how blue his eyes were and how human they looked. Until he opens his mouth of course. At which point she feels nothing but disdain for him. But during the movie, they obviously make a point to purposefully show the audience his eyes with a kind of emphasis, but hearing Belle’s thoughts about his eyes gives the emphasis a bit more meaning and the Beast’s character, in turn, is given more depth. You are also able to see as she mentally makes the connection of him being a prince because of what Mrs. Potts tells Belle, where in the movies it is somewhat dismissed, not to be mentioned until the very end when the Beast is turned human again. And even then, in the original animation, it is only mentioned at the very beginning that he is a prince and is never mentioned again. One of my favorite parts of reading this book was figuring out where all of the songs fit in. It was honestly pretty easy because lyrics from the songs would be put into a sentence or the scenery would be described, but it was still fun nonetheless. I know for sure, if you love to read and you love the Beauty and the Beast as much as I do, then you will want to give this book a read. It is not very long, Between work and school, I managed to finish it in two days. But it will definitely pull you further into the world of Beauty and the Beast and leave you wanting more! I know I would love a sequel of what life is like for Belle and the Beast after their happily ever after!
